How to build an evening tea ritual that actually sticks

A ritual only works if it is small enough to keep. Here is the three-minute version we come back to.

Most evening routines fail because they are too ambitious. Ten steps, a playlist, a candle you forgot to buy. The ones that last are almost embarrassingly small — small enough that doing them takes less effort than skipping them.

Ours is three minutes. Boil the kettle. One pyramid sachet, hot water just off the boil, three to five minutes. While it steeps, put the phone somewhere else in the room. That last part is the whole trick.

Because the blend is caffeine-free, the hour does not matter. Nine at night is as workable as nine in the morning, which removes the main reason people quit an evening tea habit in the first week.

Do it at the same moment each night and it stops being a decision. That is all a ritual is: a small thing you no longer have to talk yourself into.
